Activities 1985-1997

The Centre of Educational Programmes was established in 1985, the year when Athens was proclaimed cultural capital of Europe. This institution was inspired and established by Melina Mercouri.

The Centre of Educational Programmes is housed in Plaka, Athens in a middle-class urban house built at the beginning of the century, suitably modified in order to house educational exhibitions, workshops, the library and the projection-seminar room. The Centre of Educational Programmes functions under the Department of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture. The Centre designs and carries out educational archaeological exhibitions in Athens and the other Greek cities and towns.

Dionysos These thematically organised exhibitions consist of replicas of archaeological objects, special constructions, educational panels and audiovisual material. The educational programmes take place in the context of educational exhibitions, museums, archaeological sites and monuments. The educational programmes combine the scientific knowledge with the active learning and include activity workshops.
